The headquarters of the American Philosophical Society, known as Philosophical Hall, at 104 S. 5th Street between Chestnut and Walnut Streets in the Independence National Historical Park in Philadelphia, was built in 1785-1789 and was designed by Samuel Vaughan in the Federal style. A third floor was added in 1890, but was subsequently removed in 1948. In 2001, it became the Museum of the Society.
