鸥属（學名：Larus）在动物分类学上是鴴形目鸥科中的一个属，是分布在世界各地的海鸟。[2]
分類命名與歷史
[编辑]本屬為瑞典自然學家卡尔·林奈於1758年的著作《自然系統》第十版所建立的分類群之一。[3]林奈於當時將六種海鷗歸入該屬，但現在僅餘普通海鸥、大黑背鸥、大黑背鸥三種至今仍在此屬下。[2][3]其模式種由英國鳥類學家普里多·約翰·塞爾比於1840年指定為大黑背鸥。[1][4]該屬名來自古希臘語的λάῥος（羅馬化：laros）轉寫的拉丁語larus，原指一種貪婪的海鳥，可能指的就是鷗。[5]
分類學
[编辑]在生物分類學中，本屬內部的成員一直有所變化。[2]在1925年，美國鳥類學家喬納森·德懷特就提出了將鷗科依據型態學分成兩個大分支，而鷗屬代表的物種是當中體型較大，且在繁殖期時頭部為白色的海鷗。[6][7]在整個20世紀中，鷗屬多被視為是一個擁有五十多個物種大型分類屬，僅燕尾鷗屬、象牙鷗屬、楔尾鷗屬、叉尾鷗屬、三趾鷗屬等單型或只有兩個物種的屬被單獨劃在鷗屬之外。[8]

但在1999年的對部分鷗科物種研究中就發現，這種分類會導致鷗屬形成一個多系群，使得在2005年一份更為完整的研究出爐後，該屬被拆分為六個屬。[2][7][10]這六個屬分別為鷗屬、棕頭鷗屬、小鷗屬、漁鷗屬、笑鷗屬、黑嘴鷗屬，並被保留至今。[2][7]
近期的研究顯示鷗屬下的物種幾乎皆為更新世之後才陸續形成的物種，關係相近。[9]這也因此屬內的物種地位仍一直有所變動，例如西伯利亚银鸥及小黑背鷗的物種地位仍有爭議。[2][9]

環物種

銀鷗與其他在環繞著北半球的其他多個鷗屬物種，在傳統上被認為是經典的環物種例子之一，該群體稱為「銀鷗／小黑背鷗種群」（Herring Gull / Lesser Black-backed Gull species complex）。[11][12][13]:213這些鷗在體型、背部羽毛和裸露部分的顏色上存在不同差異。[12]提出這些物種是環物種概念的演化生物學家恩斯特·瓦尔特·迈尔認為銀鷗起源於鹹海-裡海盆地，並向東西兩側擴散，鄰近的物種彼此可雜交，而最終在歐洲形成了兩個端點。[12]銀鷗與小黑背鷗在英格蘭的沃爾尼島上，以最小僅每40平方碼的距離混居、共存，但卻幾乎不出現雜交，行為也有所不同。[14][15]甚至曾有研究提出在稍微南側地方還有一個「南環」（southern ring）的看法。[16]
2004年，有研究者以粒線體DNA的研究提出了，這個「環物種」實際上應為多次分隔和長距離遷徙事件後，在異地分化所形成的兩個群體。[11]且在親緣關係上，美洲海鸥（當時為银鸥的一個亞種）與银鸥之間也不太相近。[15]2007年，英國鳥類學家聯盟建議將該族群將其拆分為六個物種，並結束了這數個物種形成複合種的情形。[16]2010年的後續研究中，進一步證實這個族群並非環物種，且該研究認為應有第三個以大黑背鷗為首的群體也參與其中。[12]
形態特徵
