分類
由於外形相似，過去鷹科、美洲鷲科、鶚科與蛇鷲科等肉食猛禽曾歸類於此，但模式屬所在的隼科實際上更接近雀形目，與鷹類并不親近，所以其它猛禽被重新分類到鷹形目、美洲鹫目與鴞形目之中，不再屬於本目。

除瓜达卢普卡拉鹰（Caracara lutosa）和美洲鹫科（Cathartidae）物种，以及被列入附录Ⅰ和附录Ⅲ的物种，其他种被列為《瀕危野生動植物種國際貿易公約》附錄二的物種，被限制出口及貿易。
