西中市.
西中市是苏州的一条传统商业街，西面正对着著名的阊门，东到皋桥，接东中市再连上护龙街(今人民路)，全长453米。南侧有专诸巷、吴趋坊等街巷，北侧是下塘河。明清时是苏州最繁盛的街道之一。当时称为阊门大街，两边开满了绸缎、药材、珠宝、皮货等各类商店。1860年庚申之劫时曾经被烧毁。战乱结束以后重建的规模较小，仍然集中了20家钱庄。1935年西中市修建成近代马路，宽度从2米多拓宽至12米。今天西中市还基本保留了民国重建时的风格，两侧仍有民国建筑３０多幢。
