倫敦出生於加利福尼亞州聖塔羅薩，她的父母是雜耍藝人。倫敦在洛杉磯市中心擔任電梯操作員時被星探發掘，並開始他的演員生涯。倫敦的35年演藝生涯始於1944年的電影，包括在眾多西部片中擔任女主角，與洛克·哈德森合作主演《胖子》（1951年）、與羅伯特·泰勒和約翰·卡薩維茲合演《風之鞍》（1958年）、與加里·庫珀合演《西部之人》（1958年）以及與罗伯特·米彻姆合演《美妙的國度》（1959年）。

1947年，倫敦與第一任丈夫傑克·韋伯結婚，雖然兩人婚後相處並不如預期幸福，但對爵士樂的共同的愛好使兩人保持了七年的婚姻。婚姻最終以離婚收場，在一場爵士樂俱樂部的演出中，倫敦結識了爵士樂作曲家兼鋼琴演奏家鮑比·特魯普，兩人因而結婚並育有七名子女。他們一直保持著婚姻關係直至1999年特魯普逝世為止。
特魯普鼓勵他開展歌唱事業。並在積極協助下推出了第一張專輯《茱莉是她的名字》。專輯中的第一首單曲「Cry Me A River」一推出便廣受好評，尤其在1956年電影《春風得意》中客串演出，更是造成了暢銷百萬的轟動。在接下來的三年中，他曾被《告示牌》選為全美最受歡迎的女歌手。
1999年底，他因長期吸煙導致身體狀況不佳，被診斷出患有肺癌，但因身體虛弱而放棄治療。2000年10月17日，倫敦因窒息和呼吸困難而被從家中送往恩西諾-塔扎納地區醫療中心治療。並於10月18日凌晨在醫院去世，後來被確定為心搏停止；享壽74歲。[3][4]
倫敦被火化，並埋葬在洛杉磯森林草坪-好萊塢山公墓的普羅維登斯紀念法庭骨灰安置所的特魯普旁邊。她在好萊塢星光大道擁有一顆星星，該設施位於洛杉磯好萊塢大道7000號。
