粒子園

粒子物理學上,粒子園(particle zoo)[1][2]一詞是一個用以形容數量相對龐大的基本粒子的單詞,學界藉由將這現象與動物園中多樣的動物相比較而創造此詞。

粒子物理學的歷史英语history of particle physics上,在1960年代後期時粒子物理學曾被人認為是一個高度令人困惑的領域。在人們發現夸克前,學界就已發現上百種的強相互作用粒子(強子),並認為這些粒子都是基本粒子;然而之後發現說這些粒子不是基本粒子,而是由夸克構成的複合粒子。現今人們將一般認為是基本粒子的粒子的集合給稱為標準模型,而標準模型包含了夸克輕子玻色子

「粒子園」一詞最早由罗伯特·奥本海默於1956年在VI 罗切斯特国际高能物理大会上提出或推廣。[3]
