W86是美国的一款透地核弹头(英语: earth-penetrating nuclear warhead) (参见:掩体核炸弹，英语: Nuclear bunker buster)，用于潘兴II中程弹道导弹。在1980年9月因当潘兴II从摧毁加固目标，改为瞄准更远的软目标，W86的设计被取消。W85和W86核弹头为同时研发，W85全部用于生产潘兴II导弹。[1]
W86的透地外壳研发工作在1975年于桑迪亚国家实验室开始。W86的目标是在当量较小的情况下摧毁加固建筑。[2]
设计
[编辑]美国国家科学研究委员会2005年进行的一项研究调查了许多透地武器计划，指W86的直径为170 mm(6.7英寸)，重184 kg(406磅)。这研究假设峰值允许减速(英语: peak allowable deceleration)为10,000g，[3]计算出透地武器的穿透深度为7.2 m(24呎)(中等强度岩石)，18.7 m(61呎)(低强度岩石)，115 m(377呎)(泥沙或黏土)。该研究引用了W86弹头开发报告的数据。[4]
在美国国家科学研究委员会的研究中，W86的“低当量”是指少于0.5万吨(21 TJ)[5]或少于1万吨(42 TJ)。[6]
在1979年桑迪亚国家实验室的每月期刊的文章中，指一个400磅(180 kg)的试验组件穿入托诺帕测试场(英语:Tonopah Test Range)67.5呎(20.6 m)的湖床，撞击地面速度为1,796呎/秒(547 m/s)。研究需要对透地武器进行大约20次测试，以测试透地武器穿入各种物质情况。[7]
