LE-5发动机

LE-5火箭发动机及其派生型号都是日本设计制造的用于H1H2火箭上面级推进的。是以液氢液氧为推进剂。最初由三菱重工设计制造。发动机尺寸和推力都很小。发动机采用火花点火因而能多次启动,能最多点火16次,工作40余分钟。而用于H2火箭通常是点火一次工作9分钟后抛弃。而发射地球静止轨道任务,则在火箭成功停泊低地球轨道后发动机二次点火将酬载送到静止轨道。

LE-5原是用于H1火箭第三级,采用燃气发生器循环

LE-5A

LE-5A是LE-5经过大部分的重新设计而得的新型号发动机,用于H2火箭的第二级。其中主要改变是将工作循环从燃气发生器循环改为膨胀排放循环,LE-5A也成为第一个采用此循环的发动机。液氢通过管道流经发动机喷管和燃烧室外壁,受热极度膨胀产生驱动推进剂涡轮泵的压力。

LE-5B

LE-5B是LE-5A更深化改进版。变化主要在降低发动机成本,增加可靠性。由于结构的简化造成比冲降低至447秒,是三个型号中最低的。但推力却是最高的,造价也最低。5B对于5A变化最大的是膨胀排放循环中液氢管线只流经燃烧室而不经过喷嘴。燃烧室及其冷却管道的制作材料也更着重于增强热传递的效率。
