Mozilla Firefox 4是Mozilla Firefox网页浏览器在可见将来的一个版本。这软件的第一个测试版于2010年7月6日推出，第六个测试版于2010年9月14日推出，最终正式版本于2011年3月22日正式推出市面。
在这个版本的主要目标包括：性能方面的重大改进，对标准的支持，以及用户界面的改动。更新的重点在于：让用户对他们的浏览器完全掌控（原文："putting users in full control of their browser"）[5]。
历史
[编辑]2006年10月13日，Mozilla的首席总技术长布兰登·艾克提出了“Mozilla 2”计划，所指的是对现时Firefox及其他Mozilla产品运行于其上的整体平台（自推出以来）的一次最全面的更替[6]。这个计划大多数的目标都已从Firefox的3.0、3.5及3.6等多个版本开始，逐步逐步的被纳入。不过当中最大的转变，都延迟到Firefox 4.0才发表。
早在2010年5月，Mozilla的Firefox 4.0计划的详细内容正式通过Firefox的总裁Mike Beltzner在其部落格的一篇文章里展现。Firefox 4.0的主要目标是要令Firefox变得“快速，强大，有实力”（原文："fast, powerful, and empowering"）[5]。
特色

Mozilla Firefox 4包括了不少从3.6版就已经有的特色[7]。事实上，Mozilla Firefox 4是由原来的3.7版演变而来。2009年7月17日，Mozilla基金会宣布Firefox 4.0将带来全新的用户界面[8]，和使用Windows Vista和Windows 7的Aero透明效果。Firefox 4.0也将用上Windows7平台上的Direct2D矢量图形API和DirectWrite文字渲染[9]GPU加速技术。其中，另一项功能，是比较不干扰用户的更新机制，这是相当实用的技术，因为Mozilla的更新发布次数较为频繁。
Firefox工程副总裁Mike Beltzner在网络会议中强调“速度”是Firefox 4开发重点[10]。此外，4.0还将支持WebM视频文档格式、64位版本、多点触控、全新的JagerMonkey引擎[11]。Firefox使用一个称为Gecko的浏览器排版引擎项目打造而成。Firefox 3.6使用的是Gecko 1.9.2，而Firefox 4.0则是Gecko 2.0。
开发
[编辑]第一个以4.0命名的开发版本于2008年的2月到6月间建立，称为4.0a1pre[12][13]，但这个版本很快就被改名为3.1a1pre。
