The Race Course Cemetery on the hilltop of the Coffee Garden buried about 600 victims of the Race Course Fire that broke out on 26 February 1918. The fire was one of the worst catastrophes in Hong Kong history. After completion of the Cemetery, the Race Course Fire Memorial was erected in 1922.
