Eleanor Rigby是英国乐队The Beatles1966年发行的单曲及《Revolver》专辑曲目之一，由保罗·麦卡尼所写[2]。歌曲中包含了抒发生活沉闷的歌词，以及弦乐八重奏（四部小提琴、两部中提琴和大提琴）的伴奏。此歌是E小调，并于旋律中运用多利安调式，升高C音。
创作
与很多由Paul创作的歌曲一样，他是从弹琴时获得灵感的。但此曲最初使用的并不是Eleanor Rigby，而是Miss Daisy Hawkins。Paul于1966年说：
I was sitting at the piano when I thought of it. The first few bars just came to me, and I got this name in my head... 'Daisy Hawkins picks up the rice in the church'. I don't know why. I couldn't think of much more so I put it away for a day. Then the name Father McCartney came to me, and all the lonely people. But I thought that people would think it was supposed to be about my Dad sitting knitting his socks. Dad's a happy lad. So I went through the telephone book and I got the name McKenzie.

Paul指那与标题同名的角色，当中伊莲诺是从女演员伊莲诺·布罗中取得，她在 The Beatles 的电影 Help! 中演出；瑞比是从一间位于布里斯托的商店 Rigby & Evens Ltd, Wine & Spirit Shippers 中取得。他认为那是一个十分自然的名字。但有人指出1957年Paul与John在利物浦圣彼得教堂的游乐会第一次会面时，附近有个刻上该名字的坟墓，Paul也承认他想出此歌名可能是受潜意识影响[4]。有趣的是，那逝者生前也是个孤独的人[5]。
Paul写好第一段歌词，然后乐队在John家中完成整首歌。例如Ringo建议曲中麦坚时神父是一个织袜和"writing the words of a sermon that no one will hear"（写没有人会听的布道讲词）的人。[6]
此歌被认为是对孤独的人的哀叹[7]或是对英国战后生活的反映[8][9]。
当Paul无法决定如何完结此歌时，好友皮特·修顿建议麦坚时神父主持伊莲诺·瑞比的葬礼。最初John反对，但最后Paul采纳了这意见[6]。John于1972年说他为此歌写了70%的词[10]，于1980年更说他除了第一段外所有的词都是他写的[11]。但Pete指出John当时的贡献"绝对是零"[12]，而Paul认为John有帮忙，但有80%的词是他自己写的[13]。
录制
此歌的特别之处在于乐队不弹奏乐器，而是像Yesterday那样聘用弦乐队伴奏。Paul采用弦乐伴奏可能与他对韦华第的兴趣有关。弦乐部分主要由断音组成，由监制乔治·马丁所作[14]。原本弦乐有无颤音和有颤音的版本，但最后选择了无颤音的版本，另外为了制造更自然和清晰的声音，麦克风被放于非常接近提琴的位置。乐曲于1966年4月28日在艾比路录音室2号房、4月29日和6月6日在3号房录音，最后第15次录音被采用[15]。
重要性
Eleanor Rigby 标志了 The Beatles 由主要作现场表演的流行音乐转为主要用于录音的实验音乐。The Who 的皮特·汤申德于1967年说道：“Eleanor Rigby 是音乐上一个很重要的进步，它启发了我去聆听及创作该类型的音乐[16]。”
即使 Eleanor Rigby 不是第一首以死亡和孤独为题材的流行音乐，乐评人伊恩·麦唐诺认为它为1966年的听众带来不小的冲击[14]。它苍凉的主题和悲伤的弦乐伴奏十分配合，令此歌变得非常著名[14]。
