2015年－2016年：《青春创世纪》与暂时休团

2015年7月31日，团体在毫无宣传的情况下发布了单曲《爱的勇士》。这首歌曲是马利克离团后1世代发布的第1首歌曲。[107]11月13日，团体的第5张录音室专辑《青春创世纪》正式发布。[108]专辑空降英国专辑榜冠军。而在美国则以402,000份首周销量空降亚军，此首周销量超过了团体上一张专辑《青春第四课》的销量。[109][110]不久后，团体成员路易斯·汤姆林森宣布团体将开始一个大约18个月的休假。而2015年12月31日晚团体在《迪克·克拉克的跨年摇滚夜》上的表演也成为团体休假前最后一场公开演出。[111]
