鼓风机是一种能改变气体流动方向的机械装置，而且气体进入鼓风机后，气压会增大，之后鼓风机再将气体排出。而排出的气体气压相对于进鼓风机时的气压，前者更大。[1][2]中国古代炼铁时就用到了鼓风机，因为炼铁时需要上千度的高温，人们通过鼓风机将风灌入炼铁炉助长火势，藉以提高炉火的温度。[3]
