转码
转码是指直接数位对数位（digital-to-digital）转换一个编码到另一种编码格式。例如，视讯数据转化为音讯数据，通常是因为目标仪器的不支持或者储存量大小有限，或者只是单纯将数据转化为能够更为广泛支持的格式。
目前最流行的转码是将原始编码转到一个中继格式（intermediate format, 如 PCM 或 YUV），在某种程度上仍然包含了原始编码的内容，然后再转到目标格式。
用途
[编辑]转码技术是广泛使用的家庭影院电脑（Home theatre PC）软件，如MythTV的和Freevo，以减少使用的磁盘空间的视讯档。最常见的转码是MPEG-2文件到的MPEG-4格式。
