明朝《山海经图》的绘像

赤鱬是《山海经.南山经》[注 1]中记载的一种人面鱼身的动物，人面，声音像鸳鸯，又如小孩的叫声，吃了可以治病，据载有两种形象：人面鱼身或鱼行，非人面。
