苏丹皇太后
苏丹皇太后（奥斯曼土耳其语：والده سلطان）是指奥斯曼帝国在任苏丹的母亲所持有的名号[1]。参照国际音标，“Valide”在土耳其语里的发音是[Valiˈde]。苏丹皇太后的地位与西方国家的王母太后（Queen mother）或东亚的皇太后有所不同，其身份是作为苏丹的生母或养母而来，而且必须是前任苏丹的正室，但其他前任苏丹正室并不会得到尊封。
苏丹皇太后无疑是奥斯曼帝国继苏丹之后最重要的人物。作为苏丹的母亲，按照伊斯兰的传统，苏丹皇太后对帝国的事务有相当重要的影响力。在十七世纪，帝国进入苏丹女权时期，一些无能或年幼的苏丹令苏丹皇太后的角色更为突出[2]。
