能言动物
能言动物泛指任何能够说人话的动物，不论是否理解其意义[1]。最出名的例子是鹦鹉，经过教导可以了解人类语言的意义，它们可以在经常接触或人为训练之下发出人类的语言。八哥是另一种常见、擅于模仿的鸟类。
艾琳·佩珀伯格（Irene Pepperberg）博士的研究指出，鹦鹉能够有前后逻辑地说话，并且能表达其企图含意。佩珀伯格的灰鹦鹉亚历克斯（Alex）甚至能够将字母组合成单字——也就是能够读和念。
