纵带羊鱼为辐鳍鱼纲鲈形目鲈亚目须鲷科的其中一种，分布于东大西洋区，从挪威西部至塞内加尔、佛得角群岛海域，栖息深度5-409米，体长可达40公分，栖息在沙泥底质海域，属肉食性，以多毛类、软体动物、鱼类等为食，繁殖期在5月至7月，可做为食用鱼，适合各种烹饪方式食用。
