小约翰·塞缪尔·沃特斯（英语：John Samuel Waters Jr.，1946年4月22日—），美国男导演、编剧、制片人、作家、演员、视觉艺术家和艺术收藏家，他以在1970年代的造反邪典电影而闻名[1]。较著名的作品如电影《多重疯狂》（1970年）、《粉红火鹤》（1972年）、《发胶星梦》（1988年）及《疯狂杀手俏妈咪》（1994年）。
早期生活
约翰·沃特斯出生于马里兰州巴尔的摩。母亲派翠西亚·安（Patricia Ann）的娘家姓为惠特克（Whitaker），于1924年出生并于2014年过世；父亲约翰·塞缪尔·沃特斯（John Samuel Waters）是名防火设备制造商，他于1916年出生并于2008年过世[2]。沃特斯的家人是中上阶级的天主教会[3]。他主要在马里兰州卢瑟维尔成长，是巴尔的摩的一处郊区，而他少年时代的朋友兼缪斯葛伦·米尔斯特德（Glenn Milstead，之后被称作蒂凡）也住在此[4]。
1953年电影《孤凤奇缘》激起了7岁的沃特斯对木偶的兴趣，并开始在为儿童的生日派对上演暴力版的“潘趣和朱迪”。传记作者罗拔·L·佩拉（Robrt L. Pela）表示，沃特斯的母亲认为《孤凤奇缘》的木偶对沃特斯后来的职业生涯影响甚远（虽然佩拉认为年轻的沃特斯常会用双筒望远镜从远处偷看当地的汽车戏院一行为对他的影响更大）[5]。
而1990年电影《哭泣宝贝》也是在沃特斯在少年时代的产物。当时一名7岁的“青春狂热”因谋杀了年轻的“drapette”而引起了激烈的新闻报导，再加上他迷恋着一名住在街对面并拥有Hot rod的年轻人，这都激发了沃特斯创作《哭泣宝贝》的灵感[6][7]。
沃特斯曾在巴尔的摩的卡尔弗特学校接受过私人教育。在读完马里兰州陶森的小陶森高中[8]及附近的卡尔弗特霍尔学院高中后，他最后从马里兰拉丁男校毕业[9]。
