窄腹海马为辐鳍鱼纲棘背鱼目海龙鱼科的其中一种，分布于东印度洋区的澳洲北部海域，栖息深度3-63米，体长可达22公分，栖息在有遮蔽的礁石区，体色随环境而变化，有灰白色、橘红色、黄色等色彩，属肉食性，以小型甲壳类为食，卵胎生，可作为观赏鱼。
