犀照是中国古代传说，古人认为犀牛角能避邪，淮南子说，将犀牛角放在洞中，狐狸就不敢回洞，用来比喻人对事物有卓越见识，洞若观火，典故出自唐朝编写的史书《晋书》第六十七卷“温峤传”中所记载的一段史料。后来科幻小说家倪匡以此段笔记小说为题材，创作了卫斯理故事《犀照》。2006年香港导演林健龙拍摄了电影《犀照》。虽然标题雷同，电影故事却是以倩女离魂为蓝本，描述离魂状态的男主角跟他的遭遇，他和他的妻子阴阳分隔却情意缠绵，是一个带有灵异色彩的故事。
史料
《晋书》讲述晋朝名仕温峤在武昌周旋，于牛渚矶见水深难测，而世代也有说水下多怪物，温峤便将犀牛角燃烧照明；不久，在照进水中的火光里，隐约出现一些水中生物[1]，形状怪异，甚至看到有穿赤衣、乘马车的人出现。当晚，温峤在梦中看到有人甚为厌恶地对他说：“我与先生人鬼不同路，为何照我呢？”。[2]而未知是否真的因灵界作祟，有齿疾的温峤在拔牙后，因而中风，不久便逝世了。
所以相传燃点犀牛角，可目睹灵界异象。而“犀照”一词后来亦用来比喻洞烛幽微，明察事理之意。
