无线电波源

宙射电源是在外太空散发强烈的无线电波的天体。无线电辐射来自热气体、在磁场中呈螺旋运动的电子和在太空中辐射出特定波长的原子分子。无线电发射来自于各种来源。这些物体代表了宇宙中最极端的和充满能量的物理过程。

历史

在1932年,无线电天文学家工程师卡尔·央斯基侦测到在银河中心未知来源的无线电波。央斯基正在研究的贝尔实验室射频干扰的来源。他发现“......来历不明的一阵稳定的嘶嘶的声音类型”,最终他得出结论有一个地球之外的起源。这是第一次从外太空检测到无线电波[1]。第一次无线电天空调查由格罗特·雷伯进行,并于1941年完成。在1970年代,在我们的银河系一些恒星被发现是无线电发射体,其中最强的一个是独特的联星MWC 349[2]

银河系

在我们的银河系有许多无线电波的来源,也有许多是来自其他星系的。在一些例子中包括有中性氢一氧化碳,主要发现在螺旋星系类星体,像是点状的无线电源和其他各种电磁波辐射的来源,被认为是在椭圆星系中心的超大质量黑洞

超新星和脉冲星

其它的强无线电波源超新星爆炸的蟹状星云和脉冲星。短无线电波来自恒星诞生场所的高密度气体内的复合体分子

曾经搜寻银河系有无其他使用无线电的文明存在,但没有成功。

宇宙微波背景辐射

科学家也发现来自大霹雳残留的微弱背景辐射(大约发生在137亿年前的快速膨胀,被认为是我们宇宙的起点)。
