新郎
一般来说，新郎一词专指对于确立婚姻关系之际的伴侣，在结婚仪式中的男方，又称新郎官。在结婚时，新郎一般会穿上专门的礼服，经过婚礼仪式或法律程序后就成为另一方的丈夫。一般新郎也会有一至多位伴郎（或男傧相）的陪同。
字源
新郎一词的英文bridegroom起源于1604年，源自古英文 brȳdguma，是brȳd（新娘）及guma（男人、人类、英雄）组合而成的字，这个词和古撒克逊语的brūdigomo、古高地德语的brūtigomo、德语的Bräutigam及古诺尔斯语的brúðgumi有关[1][2]。
“新郎”一词是来自于“新郎官”的简化，因唐朝的进士有做官的资格，可以担任秘书郎等职务，因此会称新科进士为“新郎官”，而结婚又有“小登科”的美称，因此借用“新郎官”的称呼，后来再简化为新郎[3]。

新郎的服装会受许多因素影响，其中包括婚礼的时间、仪式的地点、新郎及新娘的种族及文化背景、仪式的种类，以及新郎是否是军人等。

婚礼中的任务
在英美式婚礼中，新郎需在婚宴后有一场简短的演讲，谢谢参加的来宾、赞美新娘、谢谢婚礼的工作人员，新郎的演讲会在伴郎演讲的后面。
