拜伦龙属（学名：Byronosaurus）是伤齿龙科恐龙的一个属，生活于上白垩纪。牠的属名是纪念拜伦先生（Byron Jaffe），以感谢他及其家人对蒙古科学院、美国自然历史博物馆的古生物学挖掘团队的支持与援助。拜伦龙的第一个标本于1993年在蒙古戈壁沙漠的乌哈托喀被发现，第二个则于1996年在大约8公里以外的地方被发现。
古生物学
[编辑]拜伦龙是小型、敏捷的恐龙，约只有1.5米长及50厘米高。牠的体重约有4公斤[1]。不像其他的伤齿龙科，拜伦龙的牙齿是没有锯齿的，呈针状，适合捕捉小型的鸟类、蜥蜴及哺乳动物。这些牙齿与始祖鸟最为相似。
化石

目前发现了两个拜伦龙的成年化石，都是头颅骨。其中一个长23公分的标本，保存状况比其他已发现的伤齿龙科头颅骨更为良好。这个头颅骨在鼻端有空间，可以让空气先从鼻孔进入再经过口部，这是与现今鸟类相似的特征。
在1994年，马克·诺瑞尔（Mark Norell）等人曾经研究过两个幼体标本（编号IGM 100/972、IGM 100/974）。这两个标本发现于蒙古的德加多克塔组（Djadochta Formation），邻近火焰崖，位于一个偷蛋龙类的蛋巢内。由于其中一颗蛋内有偷蛋龙类胚胎，几乎可以确定这个蛋巢是属于偷蛋龙类。当时，诺瑞尔等人将这两个部分颅骨归类于驰龙科。在2009年，诺瑞尔等人经过重新研究后，将这两个部分颅骨改归类于拜伦龙[2][3]。这两个颅骨属于幼年个体，邻近者蛋壳碎片。科学家无法解释为何幼年拜伦龙会出现在偷蛋龙类的蛋巢。目前的相关解释有：幼年拜伦龙成为偷蛋龙类的猎物、牠们以刚出生的偷蛋龙类为食、拜伦龙有依赖、与其他动物共生的习性[4]。
