房角石（学名：Cameroceras）是一属已灭绝的鹦鹉螺类。生存在奥陶纪中期劳伦大陆、波罗的大陆、西伯利亚大陆周遭的海洋中[1][2]。巨大的房角石长度约为9米（30英尺），不过这个估计值的准确性仍有争议。即使如此，房角石仍然是古生代最巨大的无脊椎动物。从牠巨大的身躯来推测，房角石是一种生活在深海的伏击型掠食者，可能以生活在同时期海域的三叶虫、海蝎、头足纲与无颌鱼为食。房角石于奥陶纪－志留纪灭绝事件后绝种，仅有少数存活至志留纪文洛克阶[2]。 然而最近的研究表明房角石其实是滤食性动物。
描述
[编辑]房角石属于头足纲下的鹦鹉螺亚纲，和章鱼、鱿鱼及花枝等现生的头足类为近亲。透过这些现存的头足纲动物，尤其是同样具有壳的鹦鹉螺，科学家得以推敲出房角石的外型与习性。房角石拥有头部与触须，身体与大部分的器官长在圆锥状的壳内。房角石会利用这些触手捕捉猎物，并送入被触手环绕形似鹦鹉喙的吻部，坚硬的喙部可以咬穿猎物的外壳，房角石口的内部可能同样具有齿舌，可以用来刮取猎物身上的软组织与内脏。
体型
[编辑]从房角石壳的化石碎片推断，房角石壳的长度（不包含头与触手部分）可达9米（30英尺），然而之后又将此数值下修[3]。1995年 Frey 估计房角石的全长仅有6米（20英尺）[2]。但不管是何种估计，房角石都被认为是古生代最大型的软体动物。

大众文化
[编辑]在BBC制作的《海底霸王》第1集第七危险海洋中出现，以巨型羽翅鲎为食。节目中的房角石被描述拥有很差的视力，仅能依靠嗅觉寻找猎物。
