大学生涯

2007年，尼克·福尔斯加入密歇根州立大学斯巴达人队。当年斯巴达人队主力四分卫为布莱恩·霍耶尔（英语：Brian Hoyer），此外还有新签约的四分卫柯克·卡曾斯（2007赛季为红衫状态）。2007赛季，福尔斯仅在对阵阿拉巴马大学伯明翰分校的比赛中替补出场一次。[3]2007赛季结束后，斯巴达人队又引进四分卫基思·尼科尔（英语：Keith Nichol）。面对四名四分卫竞争首发的境况，福尔斯选择转校至亚利桑那大学。[4]

NFL生涯

新星

2012年NFL选秀，费城老鹰以第3轮第88顺位选中尼克·福尔斯。[8]

2012年11月，迈克尔·维克在对阵达拉斯牛仔的比赛中受伤下场，福尔斯首次登场NFL。[9]福尔斯在接下来的数周中继续担任首发，2012年12月23日，福尔斯在比赛中手部受伤，退出赛季。[10]2012赛季福尔斯担任首发时，老鹰队战绩为1胜5负。

2013赛季，新主帅奇普·凯利（英语：Chip Kelly）上任，原定维克首发，福尔斯替补。但10月6日维克再次受伤，福尔斯接替首发并打完赛季剩下的比赛。整个赛季共首发10场常规赛，取得8胜2负的战绩。常规赛中取得27次传球达阵和2次被抄截的数据，打破了汤姆·布雷迪于2010赛季创造的单赛季“传球达阵-被抄截”比率记录（36次达阵-4次被抄截）。[11][12]福尔斯还入选了当年的职业碗。

低潮期

2014赛季，福尔斯继续以首发出场。但在11月的比赛中锁骨骨折，赛季报销。[13]2015年3月，福尔斯被交易到圣路易斯公羊。[14]2015赛季战绩不佳，在最后数周被放上替补席。2016年NFL选秀中，公羊队以第1轮第1顺序选中新星四分卫贾里德·高夫（英语：Jared Goff），福尔斯于2016年7月选择离开公羊队。[15]2016年8月，福尔斯签约堪萨斯城酋长，成为替补四分卫，2016赛季仅首发一场，2017年3月，酋长队不与其续约，福尔斯成为自由球员。[16]

替补夺超级碗

2017年3月，福尔斯与费城老鹰签约两年，重回费城，担任卡森·温茨（英语：Carson Wentz）的替补。.[17][18]在2017赛季第14周的比赛中，温茨前十字韧带撕裂，赛季报销。[19]福尔斯在赛季第15周顶替成为首发[20]，以2胜1负的首发战绩帮助老鹰队完成常规赛。

在2017赛季季后赛中，福尔斯带领老鹰队先是以15-10击败亚特兰大猎鹰[21]，再以38-7击败明尼苏达维京人[22]，闯入第五十二届超级碗。

在超级碗中，福尔斯完成373码传球、3次传球达阵、1次接球达阵、1次被抄截，费城老鹰以41-33击败新英格兰爱国者获得冠军。福尔斯评为本届超级碗最有价值球员[23][24]，他也是超级碗中首位同时完成传球达阵和接球达阵的球员。[25]

多队辗转

2018赛季，福尔斯担任了老鹰队前两场比赛的首发，在温茨伤愈归队后开始担任替补。[26][27]赛季末温茨再次受伤缺席，福尔斯自第15周起重回首发。在季后赛外卡赛中，福尔斯传球达阵绝杀，带领老鹰16-15击败芝加哥熊。[28]在季后赛次轮对阵新奥尔良圣徒时，福尔斯最后一传被抄截，老鹰以14-20憾负。[29]

2019年2月，福尔斯决定不续约老鹰队，成为自由球员。[30]同年3月签约杰克逊维尔美洲虎。[31]在2019赛季首场比赛中肩部受伤退赛[32]，11月5日伤愈归队并继续首发了3场比赛，之后被放上替补席。[33][34]

2020年3月被交易到芝加哥熊，于2020和2021赛季担任替补。[35][36]

2022年5月，离开芝加哥熊队，与印第安纳波利斯小马签约。[37]
