弟子员

弟子员，一词最早见于《汉书·儒林传序》：“今天子太学弟子少，于是增弟子员三千人。”西汉始称太学学生为弟子员，基本上是属于国家培训的重要学生，弟子员跟着自己的教师（通常是五经博士）学习，故称博士弟子员。博士弟子员可随博士同住，成绩优秀者可授官职。

明清称生员为弟子员，尤其博士弟子员是监生或贡生的雅称，蒋士铨的《鸣机夜课图记》： “旋补弟子员，明年丁卯，食廪饩。”
