南京中华门

城门，又称战门，是古代军事化建筑。本质上是加强为堡垒的门。其作用是城镇、城堡、要塞的主要进出通道，通常会有纹章或铭文标示。随着时间的推移，逐渐演变成包含吊桥，闸门，投口，箭洞，陷阱等复杂的堡垒结构建筑。除了安全用途，城门也是控制人车货物进出的点，具有维持卫生、贸易、税收等功能，也用来展示各种公共讯息，例如通行费表、地方法律、被斩首的人头。随着时代变迁，许多地方拆除了城门等防御工事，也有城门因历史价值而得到修复或重建。
