特斯拉的设备使用的环形铁芯定子上绕有四个线圈匝。该装置是由一个两相交流电流源（如变速发电机）创建旋转磁场。该设备运行25到300赫兹(Hz)的频率。理想的工作频率被描述为35至40赫兹。为展示目的之复制品可在贝尔格莱德的尼古拉特斯拉博物馆，萨格勒布的技术博物馆（英语：Technical Museum, Zagreb）及密歇根州的安娜堡动手博物馆（英语：Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum）中看到。
