学经历
沙森生于纽约市布鲁克林区，双亲是 Ragnhild Tomine 和 John Vincent Sasson，母亲是挪威人[2]。沙森先后于1972和1973年获得伦斯勒理工学院电机工程学士和硕士学位[1]。他的发明开始于1975年在伊士曼柯达公司，当时他的上级加雷斯·A·劳埃德（Gareth A. Lloyd）计划使用感光耦合元件（CCD）制作一台电子式照相机[3]。沙森今日在柯达公司负责保护该公司的智慧资本[3]。
第一台数码相机
沙森于1975年在柯达公司发明第一台数码相机，该相机重量3.6公斤，拍摄影像只有1万像素，所拍摄影像被记录在卡式录音带内，记录每幅影像过程花费23秒，拍摄的影像为黑白影像[4]。当沙森开始这项电子相机开发计划时，他预想未来的相机将是没有机械运动部件的[5]。该数码相机获得美国专利第4,131,919号。
荣誉与奖项
2010年，徕卡相机在该年世界影像博览会（Photokina）上，将徕卡生产的第400万台数码相机——一台1800万画素的徕卡 M9钛金限量版数码相机赠与沙森，作为对他的致敬[6]。2010年11月17日，美国总统贝拉克·奥巴马在白宫东房授予沙森美国国家科技创新奖章[7]，这是美国政府授予科学家、工程师与发明家的最高奖项[8]。2012年9月6日，英国皇家摄影学会授予沙森进步奖章，并且沙森成为该会荣誉会士，以表彰他的发明、研究、出版或其他使摄影与成像科学技术广泛地有重大进步贡献[9]。
