南魣为辐鳍鱼纲鲈形目鲭亚目金梭鱼科的其中一种，分布于西大西洋区，从美国佛罗里达州至乌拉圭海域，栖息深度1-65米，体长可达61公分，栖息在沿岸珊瑚礁及岩礁区，属肉食性，以小鱼为食，可做为食用鱼及游钓鱼，具利齿，易造成创伤。
