弗尔岛维克与北海风景（1890年～1900年摄影）

1879年夏天，小约翰斯特劳斯听从医生的建议忠告，与妻子前往德意志帝国辖下的北海城市弗尔岛维克静养[1]。由于小岛面北海，寓居此地的斯特劳斯以潮差与海岸风景为发想，写出一首以“海景”为题的华尔滋[1]。这就是北海风光圆舞曲。

首演由当地的管弦乐团演出[1]。维也纳首演于1879年11月16日，胞弟爱德华指挥维也纳爱乐乐团在星期日的定期音乐会演出[1]。同月30日，亦有小约翰斯特劳斯本人指挥同乐团演出一次。
