地理极点
地理极点是行星、卫星或其它较大天体的自转轴与其表面交会的点。如在地球上的北极和南极，其它天体的极也称为南极和北极，分别会在该天体赤道两侧各90度之处[1]。每一颗行星都有地理极点[2]。天体自转的摄动意味着地理极点会在它的表面上稍稍的徘回。例如，地球的北极和南极在数年的时间内会有几米的移动[3][4][5]。当制图需要精确和不变的座标[来源请求]，地理极点的平均位置作为固定的制图杆，成为物体大圆经度的交会点。如果，像地球，一个天体产生磁场，就会有磁极[6]。
误区
很多人都认为，地理的两极与磁场的两极是一回事，实则不然。
