保宁县是四川古代的一个县份，五代前蜀永平二年（912年）[1]改唐薛城县置，治今四川省理县东北薛城，为维州治，宋为威州治[2]。元至元十九年（1282年）省入威州[3]，明玉珍复置县。洪武二十年五月复省县入威州[4]。
