福柏托耳

福柏托耳希腊语:Φοβητώρ,字面意思为“可怕的”)是希腊神话中的梦神之一。他的别名是伊刻洛斯κελος,意为“相似”)。

根据《神谱》所述,诸梦神(希腊语:Ὄνειροι,拉丁语:Somnia)是夜晚神倪克斯所生。而奥维德的《变形记》则说是睡神索姆努斯(拉丁语:Somnus,希腊人称为许普诺斯)的三千位梦神儿子之中的一位。[1] [俄尼里伊(Onirii)/奥涅伊洛斯(Oneiros):希腊神话中的梦呓神族(三千梦神)] 芳塔索斯摩耳甫斯为其兄弟。


根据奥维德的描述,福柏托耳能随意变成各种飞禽走兽的样子。天神称他伊刻洛斯,福柏托耳是凡人称呼他的名字。这是一句双关语,因为奥维德将形容词拟人化,所以原义应该是说天神称他(模仿的)“很像”,凡人叫他(的扮相)“很吓人”。天神称…,凡人叫…,这用法是奥维德模仿荷马史诗的诗法。[2]天神时常把人变成花木兽鱼等物,所以非常注重"像不像",但凡人却常被天神变形而觉得非常不可思议,所以"很吓人"。[需要解释]

Ἴκελος是从是从变形记原书里的拉丁文Icelos改写的希腊语。来自于形容词ἴκελος/εἴκελος"似像、类似,源自于动词εἴκω"像…、喜欢…、似乎"。

Φοβητώρ是从是从变形记原书里的拉丁文Phobetor改写的希腊语。来自于形容词φοβητός"害怕、恐惧",源自名词φόβος"害怕、恐惧",字根为动词φοβέω"感到恐惧、惊慌"。英语以phob-/-phob为字首或词缀的字都有"害怕、恐惧"的意思,如phobic"恐怖症的"、phobia"恐惧症;惧怕"
