历史
2005年该公司宣布与中国人民财产保险股份有限公司合资组成新公司中国人保寿险销售保险产品，包括以储蓄为主的养老保险。
2012年12月20日汇丰控股公司全资附属汇丰保险（亚太）与日本住友生命保险（Sumitomo Life Insurance Company）签订协议，向其出售越南保险公司Bao Viet全部18%股权，作价约3.4亿美元
2015年8月10日住友生命保险以每股32美元现金，斥资38亿美元收购美国员工福利、年金及寿险服务提供商Symetra Financial Corp。
