لیو سوم ایساوری کو لیون سوم سوری بھی کہا جاتا ہے، وہ 717ء سے 741ء میں اپنی وفات تک بازنطینی سلطنت کا شہنشاہ رہا۔[3] لیون نے 1717ء میں محاصرۂ عظیم سے قبل شہنشاہ ثیودوسیوس سوم کو تخت چھوڑنے کو کہا اور خود قابض ہوکر تخت نشین ہو گیا۔ انھوں نے امویوں چڑھائی کے خلاف سلطنت کا کامیابی سے دفاع کیا اور شبیہوں کی تعظیم و تکریم ممنوع قرار دی۔[4]
