Gebelik maskesi (melasma), gebelerin yüzünde maskeyi andıracak biçimdeki melanin pigmenti artışıdır. Yanaklarda, şakaklarda ve alında sınırları belirsiz kahverengimsi büyük lekeler biçimindedir. Oral kontraseptif kullanan kadınlarda da görülebilmektedir. Lekeler güneşin etkisiyle belirginleşirler. Gebeliğin sona ermesi ya da oral kontraseptif kullanımının bırakılması ile silinirler. Bu iki neden dışında, anti-epileptik ilaç (hidantoin) kullanan hastalarda da melasma görülebilmektedir. Bazı olguların nedeni bilinmemektedir (idiopatik melasma).[1][2][3]
Melanin pigmentinin mikroskopik dağılımına göre tiplere ayrılırlar. Klinik incelemelerde, yüzeysel (epidermal) tip olarak belirlenen olgularda hydroquinone tedavisiyle lekeler giderilebilmektedir.[3]
