Dark wave veya darkwave, 1970'lerin sonundaki yeni dalga ve post-punk hareketinden ortaya çıkmış bir müzik türüdür.[3][4] Dark wave kompozisyonları büyük ölçüde küçük anahtar tonaliteye ve içe dönük şarkı sözlerine dayanır ve karanlık, romantik ve kasvetli olarak algılanır, altta bir üzüntü içerir.[5] Ortak özellikler arasında elektro ve akustik gitar, keman ve piyano gibi müzik aletlerinin yanı sıra synthesizer, örnekleyici (sampler) ve davul makinesi gibi elektronik enstrümanların kullanımı yer alır.
1980'lerde takipçilerine wavers[6][7] veya dark wavers denen, dark wave müziğinin yanında, özellikle Avrupa'da, bir alt kültür gelişmiştir.[8][9] Almanya gibi bazı ülkelerde, akım aynı zamanda gotik rock hayranlarını da içeriyordu.[10]
