Burkholderia cenocepacia, çevrede yaygın olan ve bitkilerde hastalığa sebep olabilen gram-negatif bir bakteridir. Fırsatçı bir patojendir, insanlarda kistik fibrozis ve kronik granulomatous hastalığı olan bireylerde ikincil enfeksiyonlara sebep olur ve çoğunlukla ölümcüldür. Başlangıçta B. cepacia olarak tanımlanmıştır, grup şimdi dokuz türe ayrılmış[3] olup, B. cenocepacia en yoğun şekilde çalışılanlardan biridir.[4]
