จอห์น ครอว์เฟิร์ด FRS (อังกฤษ: John Crawfurd, 13 สิงหาคม 1783 – 11 พฤษภาคม 1868) เป็นแพทย์, นักการทูต และนักเขียนชาวสกอตแลนด์ โดยเป็นที่รู้จักจากการเป็นทูตเดินทางเข้ามายังสยามเมื่อ พ.ศ. 2364 ตรงกับรัชสมัยพระบาทสมเด็จพระพุทธเลิศหล้านภาลัย ตามคำสั่งของลอร์ดเฮสติงส์ ผู้สำเร็จราชการประจำอินเดียเพื่อให้สยามยกเลิกการจำกัดการค้าเสรี แต่ด้วยการแสดงกิริยาที่ไม่เหมาะสมของครอว์เฟิร์ดทำให้การเจรจาล้มเหลวและต้องเดินทางกลับไป[ต้องการอ้างอิง]
ชีวิตช่วงต้น
[แก้]เขาเกิดที่ไอเลย์ อาร์กายล์ ประเทศสกอตแลนด์ เป็นบุตรของซามูเอล ครอว์เฟิร์ด ผู้เป็นแพทย์ กับมาร์กาเรต แคมป์เบลล์ และได้รับการศึกษาในโรงเรียนที่โบว์มอร์ เขาเดินตามรอยเท้าพ่อด้วยการเรียนแพทย์และจบหลักสูตรการแพทย์ที่มหาวิทยาลัยเอดินบะระใน ค.ศ. 1803 ตอนอายุ 20 ปี[1]
ครอว์เฟิร์ดเข้าร่วมบริษัทอินเดียตะวันออกในฐานะศัลยแพทย์ประจำบริษัท และไปประจำการที่จังหวัดตะวันตกเฉียงเหนือของอินเดีย (ปัจจุบันคือรัฐอุตตรประเทศ) ทำงานในบริเวณรอบ ๆ เดลีถึงอาครา[2] ใน ค.ศ. 1803–1808 เขาเคยเป็นทหารในการทัพของบารอนเลก[3]
