Aina za mimea ya maji zinazofanana na mtete huitwa mifunjo (familia Cyperaceae). Jenasi Phragmites inafikiriwa na bingwa wengi ya kuwa na spishi moja tu, lakini spishi nyingi zimefafanuliwa. Spishi moja, P. karka, husadikiwa sana.
Jina matete hutumika pia kwa manyasi haya, lakini inapendelewa kutumia jina hili kwa mazao yao. Matete hutumika duniani kote kwa kuvimba mapaa.
