Irak sa hierarchicky člení na tieto jednotky:

  • 18 guvernorátov (arab. muháfada / muháfaza) – pozri guvernorát (Irak)
  • 101 okresov (arab. kadá/ qadá) – pozri okres (Irak)
  • 246 podokresov (arab. náhija) – pozri náhija (Irak)

Na území guvernorátov Dahúk (kurd. Dihok), Arbíl (kurd. Hewlér), As-Sulajmáníja (kurd. Silémaní) a časti guvernorátov Ninive a Dijálá (de facto aj na časti územia guvernorátov Karkúk a Saláh ad-Dín) sa navyše nachádza Autonómny región Kurdistan so špeciálnym postavením.
