The Last Supper

The Last Supper is a mural by Leonardo da Vinci. It depicts a scene in the New Testament of the Bible where Jesus has his last supper with his disciples prior to his arrest and crucifixion.[1] In the painting, Jesus's disciples react after Jesus says that one of them would betray him. The painting shows the unique reaction of each disciple.[1]

The painting hangs on the wall of the Refectory of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan, Italy.[2] It is a very large painting, measuring 4.6 meters (15 feet) x 8.8 meters (28.9 feet).[2]

Leonardo began painting it in 1495 and finished it in 1498, but did not work on it all the time between these years.[3] He used experimental techniques to create the mural.[1]

The Last Supper has been called "perhaps the most important mural painting in the world."[3]

Some people think the painting has secret messages.[4][5]
