Georg Wittig (German: [ˈɡeː.ɔʁk ˈvɪ.tɪç] (
listen); 16 June 1897 – 26 August 1987) was a German chemist. He was known for his work the synthesis of alkenes from aldehydes and ketones. It became known as the Wittig reaction. He shared the Nobel Prize in Chemistry with Herbert C. Brown in 1979.[1]
