Object history
Deutsch: Rothenbuch entstand als Siedlung bei den roten Buchen um ein Jagdschloss der Kurfürsten von Mainz und wird in einer Urkunde von 1318 erstmals erwähnt. Die rote Buche steht redend für den Ortsnamen. Der Ort gehörte bis 1803 zum Erzstift Mainz und war seit 1485 Sitz des mainzischen Forstmeisters im Spessart. Darauf weist das Hirschgeweih hin. Der Forstmeister übernahm zeitweise auch die Aufgaben eines Gerichtsbeamten. Das sechsspeichige Rad erinnert an die lang währende Zugehörigkeit Rothenbuchs zum Kurstaat Mainz.
