The Menace (sh. Prijetnja) je američki crno-bijeli kriminalistički film snimljen 1932. u režiji Roya Williama Neilla. Predstavlja adaptaciju romana The Feathered Serpent britanskog pisca Edgara Wallacea. Protagonist (koga tumači Walter Byron je mladi britanski aristokrat koji je bio lažno optužen za ubistvo vlastitog oca, ali uspio pobjeći iz zatvora i započeti novi život kao naftni radnik u SAD. Radnja prikazuje kako mu je nesreća na bušotini unakazila lice, ali i dala priliku da plastičnom operacijom promijeni identitet odnosno vrati se u rodni zamak kako bi pokušao raskrinkati zlu pomajku (čiji lik tumači Natalie Moorehead) koja je lažno svjedočila protiv njega. The Menace je napravljen u produkciji Columbia Pictures, tada još uvijek drugorazrednog studija u Hollywoodu koji je uspio otkupiti prava na ekranizaciju od Wallacea, ali nije imao novac da ga angažira kao scenarista. Film je snimljen u točno osam dana, a svojim stilom, ali i "pikantnim" sadržajem je bio karakterističan za tzv. predkodovski Hollywood. Danas se smatra važnim zbog toga što je pomogao etabliranju Bette Davis, koja je tumačila lik protagonistove djevojke, u hollywoodsku zvijezdu; Murray Kinell, koji je bio član glumačke ekipe, ju je preporučio svom uglednom kolegi Georgeu Arlissu za njegov film The Man Who Played God, koji je Davis konačno učinio poznatom.[1][2]
