Struktura sulfat iona

Sulfat je naziv za jedinjenje koje u sebi sadrži SO42- jon.

Većina sulfata je rastvorljiva u vodi pod normalnim uslovima (izuzeci su CaSO4, SrSO4, i BaSO4).

Kiselina koja u sebi sadrži SO42- jon je sumporna kiselina (H2SO4).

Sulfati su dosta rasprostranjeni u industriji:

  • Neke vrste baterija svoj rad zasnivaju na sumpornoj kiselini.
  • Bakar sulfat je sastojak algecida (sredstvo za ubijanje algi).
  • Magnezijum sulfat, se često koristi za termalne kupke.
