Drvo smrti na polju smrti Choeung Ek, nedaleko od Phnom Penha. Memorijalna tabla navodi svrhu ovog drveta.

Drvo smrti ili drvo Chankiri je bilo drvo na kambodžanskim poljima smrti koje su Crveni Kmeri koristili za ubijanje djece čiji su roditelji bili osuđeni za zločine od strane Angkara. Vojnici bi udarali glavama djece sve dok im ne bi smrskali lubanje, a cilj takvih zvjerskih ubojstava bio je spriječiti ih da kao odrasle osobe požele osvetiti smrt svojih roditelja.[1]

Dio vojnika bi se smijao prilikom ovih ubojstava; naime, izostanak smijeha mogao se protumačiti kao znak suosjećanja, što je bilo dovoljno da i sami egzekutori postanu žrtve režima.[2]
