Žjar na Hronu (svk: Žiar nad Hronom; mađ: Garamszentkereszt; nem: Heiligenkreuz), je grad u Banskobistričkom kraju u središnjoj Slovačkoj, a središte je i istoimenog okruga.
Žjar na Hronu smestio se na reci Hron, 40 km od Banske Bistrice i 170 km od Bratislave.
Grad se prvi put spominje 1075. u zapisima Benediktinaca. Prvo ime grada je bilo Cristur, a spominje se 1237. Status grada dobio je 1246. Grad je do 1955. nosio naziv Svätý Kríž nad Hronom (Sveti Krst na Hronu (ili Sveti Križ na Hronu)) kada je ime promenjeno u Žiar nad Hronom (Žjar na Hronu).
Prema popisu stanovništa iz 2001. grad je imao 19.945 stanovnika.
